SUMMARY:Walk For Suicide Awareness
DESCRIPTION:SUICIDE TAKES THE LIVES OF NEARLY 30\,000 AMERICANS EVERY YEAR. An average of one person dies by suicide every 15 minutes. In Wisconsin\, suicide takes the life of one person per week. Suicide is the second leading cause of the death between 10-24 years old. Between 1952 and 1995\, suicide in young adults nearly tripled. A Veteran dies by suicide every 80 minutes. Veterans account for one out of every five suicides in Wisconsin.\n\nSUICIDE CAN BE PREVENTED THROUGH EDUCATION AND PUBLIC AWARENESS. This is why I established The Walk for Suicide Awareness in 2010. In only two years\, interest in the Walk has increased dramatically in participants as well as community involvement. With this walk\, I hope to distinguish the negative stigma associated with suicide and make it more acceptable to seek help and talk honestly about this distressing epidemic.\n\nAll people associated with the Walk for Suicide Awareness generously donate their time and talent to make the event a huge success. All proceeds go directly back into organizing the Walk and helping the Community with suicide prevention efforts\, encouraging public awareness\, and promoting the need to openly discuss the issue of suicide.\n\nOn September 14\, 2013\, the 4th annual Walk for Suicide Awareness will be held once again and there are many ways that you can contribute to make this year another success! Check-in/Registration at 8:45am. Walk Begins at 10:00am (rain or shine). For more information\, visit www.walkforsuidieawareness.org
