SUMMARY:Officials Share New Details For The Cedars at Kimberly
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, Wednesday\, Jan. 22 where officials will display conceptual designs for The Cedars at Kimberly. The meeting was originally scheduled for Jan. 16\, but has been moved to Jan. 22 at Mapleview Intermediate School\, 125 E. Kimberly Ave. The preliminary master plan for a new mixed-use neighborhood at the former New Page property was unveiled to the public in November. Since then\, the Village of Kimberly has been working with East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (ECWRPC)\, Stadtmueller & Associates and AIM Development to add detail that incorporates community input from the Nov. 14 meeting.Proposed plans include the construction of multiple mixed-use residential and commercial buildings\, trails\, green space and amenities that will create a new gateway to the riverfront. Initial public response has been positive\, according to planners. "People are ready for a new chapter at this site\, and they are energized by the idea of a new riverfront neighborhood\," said Randy Stadtmueller. At the Jan. 22 open house\, the community will be able to view cross sections\, renderings and examples of potential development options along the central corridor and riverfront sections of the 98-acre property. Participants can also view design options from other communities and provide feedback on the various concepts. Placemaking criteria will be outlined to demonstrate how the development process will be managed. "Our planning approach is centered around public input and placemaking principles\," said Stadtmueller. "For a plan to work\, a community needs to go beyond the traditional habit of rigid professional disciplines to find out how people really want to live\, work and play\," he said.
